More on Other Area Retirement Communities

While Sun City was the first and is the largest Del Webb retirement community in the area, there are other great communities to consider, all offering similar and equally fine amenities.

Sun City West

This community is about two and one-half miles west of Sun City and is about half the population. The first homes were built there in 1978 and the new construction was finished just a few years ago. Sun City West houses four recreation centers, each having its own Olympic-sized swimming pool. You can enjoy bowling, billiards, tennis, handball, racquetball, shuffleboard, boccie, fitness, running track, video games and a 1,200 seat social hall. The craft rooms and clubs are equal to those of Sun City. Sun City West has nine 18 hole golf courses. Residents own seven of those courses. Four are championship courses, while three are executive-length courses. Hillcrest is owned by John Jacobs School of Golf and is open to the public. There is also a fine Country Club.

Sun City Grand,

Del Webb's newest retirement community has both newly contructed homes and resale homes. Judy and John can help you with either. Just contact us via email or call us. Just across the way from Sun City West, it is a 4,000 acre community which will, when complete, feature 9,200 homes for 17,000 people. It is located in the city of Surprise. It currently has a Village Recreation center in the heart of the community and two fabulous championship 18 hole golf courses as well as a very nice Bistro.

Westbrook Village,

Home to almost 6,300 people, Westbrook is also age restricted and located just north of Sun City. It is an incredibly beautiful community with two 18 hole championship golf courses. There are two multi-million dollar recreation centers, an Olympic pool as well as other pools, lighted tennis courts, crafts/social center and exercise facilities. It is designed with a village concept--neighborhoods clustered around a central amenity core, and also has two nice restaraunts. Many of the homes are stucco with tile roofs, fitting in with our southwestern location. You can find both smaller and larger single family homes, condos and patio homes. Prices range from about $90,000 for a small condo up to over $200,000.

Ventana Lakes

This is a beautiful community located directly north of Sun City, and built around 26 acres of lakes. It is also age-restricted. The clubhouse has a pool, spa, fitness center, library, sauna, steam bath, lockers, showers and a ramada with a picnic-barbecue area. The game room offers pool tables, card tables and electronic golf. The craft center is available for painting, ceramics and other crafts. Tennis courts, horseshoe pits and a racquetball court are also available. The lakes are stocked with a variety of fish for residents who enjoy fishing. Ventana Lakes, started in the late 1980s, has single family homes and patio homes. All homes have tile roofs. The square footage runs between 1,200 and 2,000. The prices start around $90,000 and run up to about $190,000. There are new homes and resale homes and Judy and John can help you with information on either. It is a great place to find some inexpensive waterfront property.

Sun Village

Also also age restricted, it is one of the newer communities in the area with approximately 5,000 residents. The 47,000 square foot recreation center offers facilities for cards, billiards, table tennis, sewing, wood-working, arts and crafts, as well as a fitness center, library and beauty/barber shop. It also has its own restaraunt. Free movies, dancing, parties and other activities are available in the spacious Kachina Ballroom. Sun Village boasts one of Arizona's largest heated swimming pools, a whirlpool, spa, an 18 hole executive golf course, a pro-shop, and tennis courts. This is one of the only gated communities in the area with a guard at the entrance 24 hours a day. Housing options include single family homes, detached patio homes and condominiums. The square footages starts around 600 square feet and goes to over 2,094 plus. Prices range from in the mid $40,000 range for a small condominium up to over $200,000. Judy and John have listed and sold many homes in this beautiful little community. Contact us if you're interested in this friendly, quaint retirement area.

There are other retirement, resort communities in the Phoenix area. In addition, we are familiar with the non-retirement areas as well. If you have a family or are looking to re-locate to the sunny Phoenix area, give Judy and John a call.
